Final Day
As mentioned in the last entry, we did scuba diving and snorkeling. This meant that we had finally arrived in Cairns! our last stop.
The first two days, we were still with the tour. The first day we did the great barrier reef and the second day we went on an old train journey to the mountains. At the top we arrived in a village called Kurranda. This was a small place but had a few things to do, so me and Beth went to Koala World, which had koalas but also walabies, crocs and snakes. We had the chance to hug a koala so got a pic of that (see below).
That night we said our goodbyes to the people on the tour and checked into our hotel which we will be in till we fly out, this hotel is very nice and we have a room on the top floor, but I only think we got that because I paid in cash. Next I went to get the car, see a pic of it below.
That night we went in the car up north to a town called Port Douglas, here there was a street carnival on and fireworks, the carnival was fun but we almost missed it because no one knew what time it started and we needed food.
The next day we took the car and headed out to the northern beaches (as cairns has no beach). The tide was in on these beaches and they were empty but nice. We also saw a sign saying 'Danger.. Crocodiles in this area, posibility of attacks and death' But we did not notice this until we were leaving.
The following day we headed out on a drive up into the mountains past Kurranda and onto Marreba, there is nothing there, and even worse it was sunday and no shops were open. Although all was not lost as we saw some massive ant hills, the highlight of Barry's day (see pic below).
The next day we had to give the car back and so did some shopping first.
Today is the last day of our holiday, oh no. we just relaxed at the lagoon in carins which is a man made outdoor pool with some and on the banks and is so everyone can have a swim becuase there is no beach here.
See you all real soon. :(
Hope you have all enjoyed reading our blog and we have made you all ultra jealous

Onwards to paradise
After Surfers paradise we headed northwards, stopping in Brisbane for a couple of hours to see the city and do some shopping. Brisbane is.... Brisbane and does not really have any features that are unique to the city.
Then we went accross the sea (45 mins on ferry) to Fraiser Island which is a island 17km wide by 110 km long and is completley SAND!!!!! no kidding, its all sand and forest. The island in home to lots of different species of animal including wild dogs (Dingos) and over 14 different kinds of snake including all of the ones which our deadly!
Here we stayed in what can only be described as a Shack as there was a million ways in which the crawlies could get into the room, upon entering the room, i was greeted by an ant on my pillow, great! being back to nature has its charms but you don't really want it 24/7.
The next day we went on a 4x4 tour of the island, now when you think of 4x4, you think land rover or something similar, well so did we until we saw what pulled up. It was a bus, ok it was a bus with a 3.4 litre supercharged diseal engine with 16 gears. the paths that it took were very bumpy and you kept losing your stomach.
We went to the otherside of the island where there is a 75 mile beach and saw a old shipwreck whcih had washed up, then we went inland to a large fresh water lake called Lake McKenzie, this was very nice with ultra fine powder sand which would clean your skin (exfoliate). The lake was a lovely deep blue and we all had a swim.
The next day we headed north and stopped just outside Rockhampton which is a Cow town (lots of cow farms) in a place called Capricorn Caves, which obviously has some caves. There is not much to do here apart from visit the caves and get back to nature. The plus side was that they had wild gray kangeroos around the place and when we got up the next morning, we were treated to a fight between two young kangeroos, i took a video of this and will upload when i can.
Now we have just got to Airlie Beach which is the passage way to the WhitSunday's which are a group of 74 islands in the tropics.... The real beach holiday starts here.!!!

Australia's holiday park
After Byron Bay we headed inland, up the hills to a sub-tropical rainforest, we had a short walk around and saw a waterfall! Luckily the only nature we encountered was a caterpillar and a bush turkey! Our next stop lead us to Surfers Paradise!! We arrived around four and headed out later that night for tea at the surf bar and drinks! Free champange was included on entrance which was nice! Today has been all about soaking up the rays on the beach and at the pool! The sea was slightly out of the picture as the waves are big enough to kill!!
Tonight we had a free meal, chips again!!! Everything here has to be deep fried. Early start tommorrow as we head off to fraser island, got to be up and ready for 6am!!!!!!!!!! nooo!!
Overall Sufers is not a patch on Byron Bay, it is very commercial and reminds us of America, so if you ever head down under Byron is a definate!
We have some more of Barrys lovely snaps for you though, ooooh you lucky things!
firstly we have some pics from earlier that i could not upload last time.
Myall Lakes - sunrise
Bryon Bay - main street
Sunset at Bryon Bay lighthouse - the most eastern point in Australia
The Bryon Bay Lighthouse
New pics now.............................
The waterfall in the hills
